Contrast
by Megan Rahn
Eyes of onyx
Deep with God's covenant sonnet.
Eyes of gold,
Bright with anticipating God's promises of old.
A voice of cymbals and timpanies,
Booming with the sound of joy in life,
Will last to infinity.
A voice of flutes and chimes,
A melody of underserved gifts of grace
Given thousands of times.
Skin dark as the shadows,
Reminding the protection in His wings,
The remarkable refuge crescendo.
Skin as light as the morning,
Reminding of his newness of mercies,
The darkest of our nights cease their storming.
A soul as vast as the galaxies in the skies,
Glowing with charm and zealous drive.
A soul as deep as the ocean's secret spaces
Rolling with compassion and awestruck wonder-gazes.
Tears from times of tragedy and trauma,
The effects of a broken world,
Ran down the cheeks of a boy,
Who cried and begged for hope,
To be rescued from a despairing void.
Tears from times of trial and anxiety-inducing troubles,
The effects of a broken world,
Ran down the cheeks of a girl,
Who cried and begged for hope,
That the promises God laid out,
Would not be broke.
A smile as long as the road it took,
To get you to this place,
Through love that cannot be shook.
A smile as big as my heart for you,
Watching you come into your own,
Your own way of you,
Reminding me of how God sought his promise all the way through.
