Submission Guidelines

Writing.
Fiction or nonfiction pieces must not exceed 2,000 words. Poetry/Lyric pieces must not exceed 80 lines.
Work submitted to other publications can be submitted to Thin Space.
The same entrant may submit up to 5 pieces for each of the following genres: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry/lyric (total of 15 pieces).

Photography.
Single photos or photo series will be accepted. Each photo or photo series is one submission. A maximum of 5 submissions is allowed in the photography category.
A photo series must not exceed 4 photos.
Photographs must be in digital format, but do not need to be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable.
All digital files must be 20 megabytes or smaller, be in JPEG or.jpg format, and be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).

Visual Art.
Any forms of visual art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, or graphic art are welcome.
Each art piece or series of art pieces will be counted as one submission in the visual arts category. A series must not exceed 4 art pieces. A maximum of 5 submissions is allowed in the visual art category per entrant.

Hybrid Art / Other Guidelines.
Submissions featuring more than one artist and/or more than one medium are considered a hybrid. If your hybrid includes a photo series, a maximum of 4 photos is allowed.
A maximum of 5 submissions is allowed in the hybrid category per entrant.

Artist Statements.
Visual artists are required to submit an artist statement with their piece. An artist statement is optional for writers. The artist statement should be a short paragraph explaining why the piece(s) was created in relation to the theme. Please refrain from submitting an artist’s bio or mission statement here.

Additional Guidelines.
Thin Space accepts only original submissions of written and visual work and must not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity, or intellectual property rights of any person or entry. No other party can have any right, title, claim, or interest in the submitted piece(s).
Submissions must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the Sponsor, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. If the entrant is unsure whether their work(s) contains such content, they may contact mmlliterary@moody.edu to arrange a time to discuss their piece with the Sponsor.
Politically divisive written submissions will be disqualified.
We welcome submissions written in other languages. However, each work must have a clear English translation by the author.
If the submission includes the work of more than one artist or writer, please list those names and the types of pieces they worked on.
